The Ancient art of Kalamkari
The Ancient art of Kalamkari is flourished in SRIKALAHASTI located in Andhra pradesh South Eastern Part of India.
The word is derived from the word KALAM(PEN) & KARI(Craftsmanship) the art is Ancient about 3000 yrs back. Process comprises,as cloth is treated with Milk mixed with other natural colours, then dried. Later outline is drawn with burn tamarind stick.Pen is made up from Bamboo. Later its washed in river also dried in river Sand to remove extra color. This art flourished in SriKalhasti due to the river Sonamukhi as clean water flows in it its extraordinary beautiful hand painting on fabrics the word kalam means pen and kari means work .the kalamkari artists make use special pen for the bamboo tree.
The Kalamkari art includes both, printing and painting. The colors used in making these paintings are organic. Most of the colors are prepared using parts of plants – roots, leaves along with mineral salts of iron, tin, copper, alum, etc., which are used as mordants. There are numerous forms and styles of this type of painting throughout the Indian subcontinent Macchlipatnam style of KALAMKARI is all about Block printing ,art evolved during Mughal dynasty in Krishna
